Do you find yourself procrastinating? Are you not pursuing your financial desires you really want? You doubt yourself, don’t trust or believe in yourself that you really can do it.

Can you relate to this.  This can help us visualize how this may show up in our lives. Do you every say to yourself: “I should” when it comes to saving money?  Have you ever said, “I should be able to figure out my finances?”

When we think that way it doesn’t tend to make us feel very good or motivated. Maybe we feel overwhelmed, resistant, insecure, or even embarrassed, so we never start. We avoid seeing the benefits of starting, trying something or even asking for help.  Instead, we distract ourself to avoid discomfort, physically and emotionally. Ultimately, we don’t allow ourselves to have the confidence to try something new, or to make a little challenging.

This same process shows up in other areas of life, such as, not prioritizing ourselves and our self-care, creating healthy habits, or loving ourselves as we are, and deciding to cherish our bodies and do things to improve it. Instead, we just stay stuck, we just keep procrastinating and don’t take action.

Why do we procrastinate when it comes to our finances?

Procrastinating comes from a lack of self-awareness and self-love. Think about your life, what areas are you super confident, you show up, you achieve whatever the task is head of you? There may be a lot of things that you have a lot of self confidence in, but there may be that one thing that you just don’t do.

How can awareness help?

When we have awareness around our thoughts and how we feel, that is life changing. We get to decide how we think and feel about something. Think about the benefits of getting your finances in order.  The relief from stress and anxiety when the credit card bill arrives, or you have an unexpected expense.

When we think about the benefits we may feel excited, hopeful and even confident. When we feel that way, we then start to change our thoughts and beliefs about money and what is possible for ourselves.  We do this from a place of self-love. We can start small, for example, maybe you decide to pay off the lowest balance credit card. Once you do, that gives you momentum to tackle the next one and the next one.  The more we do it the better we feel and the more self-confidence we will have.  Before you know it, you will have paid of all your credit card debts.

How can we go from procrastination to action with our finances?

To keep building our self-confidence we have to do new things, things we have never done before. Show ourselves that we can achieve that short term goal. When we achieve the short-term goal, it helps to build confidence that we can and will achieve our long-term goal.

Think of your future self, what does he/she want to achieve? How do they show up? What do they do? How do they feel? How do they think about their possibilities and goals? Do they have the confidence in themselves to achieve that goal?
